The Prompt

Produce a short documentary that demonstrates proficiency in all stages of video production, including pre-production planning, filming, and post-production editing. The project required selecting a compelling topic, adhering to strict deadlines for each stage, and delivering a final piece suitable for a professional portfolio. The Process

The production process for my documentary was a balancing act of planning, researching, and hitting record at just the right moments. I sat down with five "experts"—aka the amazing student leaders of Soul Purpose (who also happen to be close friends), our campus director, and even myself—to gather insights that would shape the story.

On top of interviews and research, I had to start filming b-roll early to capture key moments as they happened. As production ramped up, I juggled scheduling full interviews, refining the story, and making sure I had enough footage to bring it all together in post.

Editing was where everything finally clicked. As I pieced together the best clips, the final narrative began to take shape. Throughout the process, my b-roll shot list kept growing and the story evolved in ways I never expected—but that’s the fun of documentary filmmaking.

The Final Product

This final documentary isn’t just a story—it’s a glimpse into the heart of Soul Purpose. Every interview, every shot, and every music choice was carefully selected to reflect the passion and dedication of the women who make this community what it is. The soundtrack and b-roll capture the energy and connection that fuel this group. From moments of deep reflection to the joy of shared experiences, this piece is all about celebrating the people who pour their hearts into building something bigger than themselves. Hit play and learn about the community that holds a special place in my heart.
